Your Needs Always Come First
The term “fiduciary” applies to the requirement that an investment advisor work in the best interest of their client. But, understanding how the fiduciary standard protects you is important in distinguishing the benefits of working with a trusted partner like Oxford Financial Group, Ltd.
As a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), we are regulated by the Investment Advisors Act of 1940. As such, we are obligated to follow the highest legal standard—the fiduciary or trust standard—in managing your assets. Acting solely in your best interests, we identify solutions to the complex issues associated with managing significant wealth. Entrusted with your money, we seek to avoid conflicts of interest, remain completely transparent and act prudently at all times.
The “fiduciary” standard is a higher standard than the “suitability” standard applied to banks and brokerage firms, which only requires the advisor to make investment recommendations that are “suitable.” Suitability, however, does not necessarily mean it is in a client’s best interest. For example, a financial advisor affiliated with a broker/dealer can sell the highest commission investment to a client provided the investment is considered “suitable.”
Oxford’s conflict-free strategy also applies to our compensation—we are paid for providing you with objective, unbiased financial advice—our success is contingent on yours. In fact, we have a written Code of Ethics that governs our actions. Our fee-based compensation means that there are no transaction-based commissions influencing the construction of your portfolio. And, we are legally required to disclose actual or potential conflicts of interest and take steps to reduce them.
As an independently owned firm, Oxford has no vested interest in promoting a particular product or service. This independence enables us to access some of the industry’s leading investment managers, using our size and scale to negotiate lower fees for our clients. Our job is to identify the best investment solutions based on their risk, return and liquidity characteristics. This includes leveraging relationships with professionals in accounting, estate planning and insurance to design a comprehensive strategy to meet your objectives.
Oxford is committed to always doing what is best for you, our client. We operate in a manner that minimizes conflicts of interest and maximizes transparency. It is the foundation that supports satisfied, long-term relationships with each and every one of our clients.
